Seminar Description

Participants learn how to include and support students with a range of disabilities in general physical education (P.E.) classes. Through hands-on demonstrations, the speaker shows participants how to modify activities to include students with disabilities. The seminar may cover any or all of the following topics:
  • Introduction to inclusion in general P.E. (including legal issues)

  • Planning the inclusive P.E. program (including the IEP process)

  • Assessment to facilitate inclusion

  • Curricular modifications to accommodate children with disabilities in general P.E.

  • Instructional modifications to accommodate children with disabilities in general P.E.

  • Modifications to games and team sports

  • Utilizing peer tutors and teacher assistants in general P.E.

  • Facilitating the social aspects of inclusion in general P.E.

  • Safety issues and inclusion in general P.E.

  • Dealing with behavior problems in general P.E.
